SUMMARY:Hashi by Tom Porta
DESCRIPTION:Hashi\, the bridge. \nThe bridge constitutes not only a physical but also a metaphorical crossing point in ancient Japanese culture. \nIt can be crossed in both directions\, for example in gardens\, to pass over waterways during meditation paths. It represents the passage between states of mind\, as well as stages of life or decisions about one’s path. \nHashi’s collection of works\, punctuated by four paths (Night\, Day\, Mono and Stereo) and three bridges represents not necessarily an evolution\, rather a sideways glimpse into the perpetual motion of creating\, understood as sincere expression\, a primal need underlying every artist’s awareness. \nIt is not known whether this is a new direction or a temporary glimpse\, but it is certain that it reflects\, after several years of research\, an important deep breath in the unfolding of that Kata aimed at perfecting one of the Master Arts on par with the use of the sword and necessary for the completeness of the Samurai. \nThe opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday\, November 28 at 6 p.m. in the Rossetti Underground space\, the basement of Palazzo Saluzzo. Also on this occasion\, mindful of previous successful collaborations\, the installations in Tom Porta’s exhibition are curated by Virginia Cafiero. \nTOM PORTA. \nHis work focuses on the history of the 20th century\, using the past as a mirror of the present\, as shown in his highly successful cycle “Shinpu Tokkotai Project” Inspired by Japanese Kamikaze.\nThe artist is fascinated by the passage of time\, the mark on objects\, the wear and tear he allows to flow in his journey. There is no casual observer and distraction is literally pulverized by the power of the pictorial stroke\, the choice of subjects\, the framing\, the colors as vital breaths. \nVIRGINIA CAFIERO \nVirginia Cafiero creates paper doughs with meticulous patience through a careful and painstaking process\, to which she combines vegetable elements\, which she shapes into subtle irregular forms\, with rough surfaces and natural colors. Thus are born paper dresses\, kimonos composed of tea bags. He collaborates with numerous city art spaces and exhibits his paper works throughout Europe. He has created exhibitions and installations for a number of museums in Genoa\, such as the Commenda di Prè Museum\, the Galata del Mare Museum and the St. Augustine Museum.
